Tongue is sore from putting toothpaste on toothache?

i have had a tooth ache for a couple days and i cant get into the dentist untill next week, ive been putting toothpaste on the tooth and gums and it numbs the pain for about an hour or so, but ive had to wake up and re-apply the tooth paste, but the toothpaste is taking its tole on the side of my tongue and its really anouying, kinda like a dry feeling but its not dry, kinda like a small burn on the side from the toothpaste being on it too long.

anybody know how i can go to bed without the toothpaste so my tongue can heal, i guess im asking for toothache remedys that wont burn my tongue tissue?

thanks

Try Bonjela gel. Its a clear gel intended for mouth ulcers, gum problems etc, but works v quickly and is less smelly than clove oil. Its available from chemists and supermarkets.
Reply:take paracetamol and ibroprofen every 4hrs it should work, also try an out of hours dentist, ask your dentist for the number, it may cost but what would you rather have a bill or terrible dental pain??
Reply:You need something with Oil of Cloves in it. Toothpaste is an abrasive and will irritate your tongue.
Reply:Take paracetamol for the pain or ibuprofen if you want pain relief and anti-inflammatory effects. Then wash the tooth with the ache with a soft brush dipped in antiseptic mouth wash like listerine (or salt%26amp;water if you have no mouthwash) as the toothache could be caused by an infection and then put clove oil or bonjela on the toothache.... you could put bonjela on your tongue to help it recover too.

Then get to the dentist as soon as possible!

Never heard of toothpaste as a remedy before, and i worked in a pharmacy for the last 8 years!
Reply:Your best option right now is stop the toothpaste that is to clean your teeth and it has a fine pumice in it that is why you are getting sore. Take ibprophen like advil or motrin which is a anti inflammary and will help lessen the throb in the tooth.
Reply:hi ,ive got the same problem as you,i rinse my mouth with salt water(disgusting) but it worked for me ,try it straight away immediate relief , hope this helps
Reply:rub it with oil of cloves.
Reply:you eat tooth paste?
Reply:Don%26#039;t put toothpaste on tooth to numb pain. Try sucking a clove. Clove is a seed herb used in cooking that is pleasant (I think) to suck raw and sooths tooth pain. Accompany with a pain killer like co-proximal or paractamol. And chase your dentist for am emergency appointment if you%26#039;re in pain, tho this may cost more. DB
