Cleaning Earrings with toothpaste?

I have heard (and seen similar questions in Yahoo answers) that you can use toothpaste to clean jewelry. But can you use toothpaste on earrings?

Exactly how do you use toothpaste to clean earrings? I%26#039;m assuming you dilute it somehow, but do you soak the earrings or have to scrub them etc?

Any other ideas that%26#039;s cheap to clean earrings?

Cleaning Earrings with toothpaste?
yes, hold the ear-ring in the palm , scrub with toothbrush/paste, gently, as u would you teeth, there should be no diamond or stone etc.. do it only for few seconds .../30 or so... no guarantee but i got good result... be careful..no claims on me.. try and let me know the outcome
Reply:This works well just be careful not to stick the toothbrush into you ears.
Reply:yea u can clean them with toothpaste just use a minty kind
Reply:using toothpaste for cleaning? hehehhehehe...

No, actually you use toothbrush as a scrubber that%26#039;s it. Use a proper jewel cleaning liquid. People use Toothbrush bcos it is pretty handy/compact for cleaning jewels.

Note: Dont use the same brush for cleaning your teeth unless you have a golden tooth! :-)
Reply:use a toothbrush to form lather with the toothpaste and rub them on Ur jewelery piece
Reply:Put a bit on the toothbrush and lightly brush it. Buff off with a soft dry cloth. No meant for hard rubbing.
Reply:i scrub them with an old tooth brush then rense then scrub again without the toothpaste to get it out of the crevaces. then they shine like new
Reply:Toothpaste may be too harsh on many metals. You can rinse most of them in peroxide or alcohol. Just fill the cap of the bottle and drop them in for a minute.
