Is whitening toothpaste ok with braces?

Well i have had braces n for 1 year and 6 months. For most of the time i have been using whitening toothpaste. I cant really teell if it did anything or not. i read on websited that whitening toothpaste only removes stains from things like coffee and other staining foods. i have been taking much better care of my teeth since i got them on and i really don%26#039;t want stains. Questions asked by other people on this same topic got answers sayingthat whitening toothpaste is ok but other whitening products are not such as whitening strips. I don%26#039;t think i wil end up with stans under neath my bracketes or around them because i have taken good care of my teeth. My orthodontist didn%26#039;t tell me not to use whitening toothpaste eiether.

A friend of mine used it and when he took off the braces the place where they were was yellower. As the braces are stuck on the tooth that area won%26#039;t be whitened.

So i don%26#039;t think it will mess up your braces I just think the result will look bad once your braces are taken off. Its on thing to try to whiten your teeth when they are all one shade but when they are 2 shades... It might be harder. I am pretty sure it%26#039;ll look bad.

So my advice is just wait until your braces are off and then do the whitening stuff so the entire tooth will be the same color.
Reply:Whitening toothpaste, along with other whitening products, won%26#039;t harm any dental work, including braces. All of them state this on their package.
Reply:I don%26#039;t think it will harm them, but when you have them removed, you may have spots on your teeth b/c the whitening toothpaste couldn%26#039;t reach that area. I would definately ask your Ortho. He/she might be able to give you some really good advice/tips. My un-educated advice would be to wait to whiten them until after you get them off.
Reply:DO NOT use whitening toothpaste. It is not ok with braces. Your orthodontist should have told you. The whitening agent will do a couple of things, it will make your teeth more sensitive and it can wear down the cement holding your brackets on, sooner or later you will find brackets coming off or loose, also it can and probably will leave a spot under the brackets a little less white. When they put your brackets on the used like a pumas to your teeth to make the fibers stick out and enable the cement to stick, the agents in the toothpaste then get in and make them sensitive.
Reply:I have braces too, and i just use the normal anti-cavity kind, because when you have your braces still on like i do, the most important thing you can do now is to make sure you don%26#039;t get cavities, because getting them out is harder in a lot of places. Besides, you can%26#039;t really tell if you have white teeth or not, because i notice that when i look in the mirror, the first thing i see when i smile are my braces, and i don%26#039;t notice my teeth too much.

Also, if you use the whitening toothpaste, it won%26#039;t cover the places under your brackets, so when you take them off, it%26#039;ll look weird. So I%26#039;d advise you to stick to the normal toothpastes, and start whitening after you get your braces off.

Good luck ;D
