Allergic to Toothpaste?

I regularly develop canker sores/ ulcers inside my mouth (tongue, inside my lips/cheeks, along the gumline, etc.) One doctor suggested it was a toothpaste allergy and I think she was on to something, because if I stop using whitening toothpaste it usually keeps the sores at bay for a few weeks. I am using Sensodyne but they still creep up from time to time and are very painful. Does anyone know what this could be? If it is a toothpaste allergy, which toothpastes are %26quot;safe%26quot;? It is nothing contagious because I%26#039;ve been affected for years and never spread it to anyone.

Allergic to Toothpaste?
It%26#039;s not so much %26quot;toothpaste%26quot; since there is no single thing that is toothpaste, it%26#039;s a combination of many ingredients.

To my mind, the most likely culprit is the sodium laureth sulfate (or sodium lauryl sulfate). This is a foaming agent and it really isn%26#039;t very good for you. They have to keep the amount in toothpaste very small because it%26#039;s pretty toxic. They also use it in soaps and shampoos to create foam.

If you can%26#039;t find anything, you can do a google search on %26quot;homemade toothpaste.%26quot; I have pretty much given up on commercial brands, and just use baking soda.

You can find natural toothpastes without these ingredients. I recommend you try one of those natural toothpastes that don%26#039;t contain the sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate ingredient.

Some larger grocery stores, health food stores, Whole Foods, and Trader Joes all carry natural toothpastes.
Reply:Frankly my dear, since you seem to have allergic reactions when using toothpaste, I suggest you brush your teeth with %26quot;Baking Soda%26quot;.

Also, if you ever run out of deodorant, you can also use baking soda as well.

It can %26amp; is used for many things.
Reply:Well whitening toothpaste can be very strong, so that%26#039;s good that you stopped using it. I bet you%26#039;re allergic, what you should do is keep trying different toothpastes until you find one that doesn%26#039;t irritate your mouth. I used to use a very strong toothpaste and it gave me spots on the corners of my mouth so i just stopped using it all together and it went away. So try a toothpaste that says on the box good for sensitive skin or something like that.
