Use toothpaste to clean disc!?
never use it.u%26#039;ll spoil the disk.use glycerine instead.
Reply:Does it actually work? What brand toothpaste?
Reply:Just wash on the backside of the cd with water only and wipe it with a tissue or a cloth.
Reply:Toothpaste will probalby just gunk up and mess up your disk.

Use water and a soft towel like the above person said.
Reply:no way!!, use only water!!!
Reply:Since no one who has answered so far seems to understand the theory of toothpaste use. I%26#039;ll explain it.

The idea is that cavity prevention toothpaste fills in the cavitous area and helps reconstruction of the teeth. What it%26#039;s supposed to do on a disc is simply fill in the scratched surfaces.

Why is this helpful? Because the disc itself, the plastic portion, holds absolutely no data. I know that is how it used to work, but that isn%26#039;t the way anymore. If you%26#039;ve ever ripped a label off of a disc or damaged the top of it somehow before then you know what I%26#039;m talking about. You see the plastic portion is a displacement medium for the direct of the laser, this is why you could completely destroy a disc with a single microscopic scratch while some discs work just fine with huge clusters of damage. FACT: The smaller the amount of data that the game is trying to access, the larger the amount of chance a lockup will occur.

Now, to the original question... honestly I haven%26#039;t experienced success of this theory firsthand, and it simply for cleaning purposes. Though it certainly doesn%26#039;t gunk up the CD, simply rinsing it will be fine. What you are supposed to do, as I was told from someone who had done it before, is use cavity control toothpaste on the area of the disc that needs doctoring, spread with your finger, and rinse (JUST RINSE, NOTHING ELSE). And the story is that if this doesn%26#039;t work, you%26#039;ve got yourself a dead disc, sorry. :(
